What is the purpose of missions?

To fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20  “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”)

And also to Spread the Gospel in our Community and the Whole World. (Acts 1:8 “…and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.)

How do we accomplish this? Several ways…

  • We give a budgeted amount each month to the Cooperative Program through Southern Baptist Convention which goes to support over 9,000 missionaries worldwide.
  • We also fulfill Jesus’ commandment through Faith Promise.

Faith Promise is where individual church members are asked to prayerfully consider what amount of money God may be calling them to invest above and beyond their regular tithe to support missions. This commitment is between the giver and God. The church member fills out a commitment card that describes the weekly, monthly or yearly commitment. This card is not signed. These cards are collected and totaled. This total becomes the congregation’s Faith Promise mission’s budget for the year. Faith Promise commitments are renewed at the beginning of every new year. Your investment can be placed in an offering plate, online, or text, by designating it for missions.

Listed below are the missionaries, evangelists, and ministries that we support through Faith Promise. Tabernacle currently supports 11 different missionaries, evangelists, and ministries.  If you are interested in knowing more about Faith Promise or how you can become a part of investing in these missions, please contact our church office.
